Mechanical Engineer - Projects

Under the supervision of the Engineering Director and member of a brilliant team of Engineers and Mechanical Designers, you will be performing technical tasks that are as varied as they are stimulating. The work consists of taking charge of lifting platform projects in all its phases of implementation: technical design, internal coordination, support for Draftsmen-Designers, manufacturing, and installation.

The technical aspects related to the lifting platforms are to design steel structures, to size machine elements and to integrate/design guidance systems. Eventually, you will be able to offer support for the standardization of calculation and design methods, and ultimately progress and work on projects with greater complexities and larger scales. The role of the mechanical engineer is also to be a technical reference for our sales, estimation, manufacturing, and supply teams.

Main functions

  • Perform calculations related to our projects (steel structure, drive elements, guidance system, seismic conditions, anchors, etc.) using RISA, MathCad and Excel;
  • Support the team of Designers in the development of manufacturing drawings;
  • Select and integrate the Spiralift model best suited to the project;
  • Follow the progress of projects via our management software and take action to ensure deadlines and deliverables;
  • Participate in design reviews and brainstorming sessions;
  • Perform experimental tests to validate technical solutions or mechanical designs.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Strong interests in the resistance of materials, machine elements, static and dynamic of machines as well as the realization of international projects;
  • Sense of organization;
  • Analytical skills;

Administrative Project Manager

Installation & Service Coordinator

We are a company operating in the engineering and manufacturing sector, which, thanks to its know-how and technology, has become a leader in the lifting platform and hall transformation industry, both nationally and internationally.

Within the installation and service Team, and under the supervision of the director of this department, the main responsibilities of the coordinator are to plan the resources on site according to needs, to coordinate travels and to invoice once everything is completed.

Main tasks:

  • Organize and prepare the travel of technicians and other technical resources necessary to meet the needs of project’s installation:

– Prepare and send standard customs documents;

– Coordinate the application of VISA and BCSA;

– Build routes that make sense geographically through time;

– Prepare and send the necessary documents related to the COVID 19 crisis;

– Book flights, hotels and car rentals according to the schedule established internally, in collaboration with the travel agency;

– Communicate to the travel agency our different needs in order to optimize the service provided.

  • Ensure a rigid monitoring and updating of the various documents necessary for the technicians’ trips (criminal background check, drug screening test and passport renewal) and obtaining the technical certifications necessary for their work (CNESST training , OSHA, forklift, rescue worker, etc.);
  • Answer calls/emails from customers with technical problems and transfer the calls to the appropriate internal technician, ensuring follow ups as well;
  • Ensure the transmission of relevant information related to the coordination with the various internal departments;
  • Coordinate technicians’ vacations and update the internal schedule with everyone’s availability;
  • Keep up to date the schedule of people who are on call for evening or weekend calls for technical assistance;
  • Validate with the accounting department the bonus of the technicians and all follow-ups on installations and services bills;
  • Lead and attend weekly interdepartmental meetings;
  • Soliciting customers who have installed our equipment in order to schedule maintenance visits;
  • All other related tasks in support of the Installation and Services Director.

Requirements :

  • Bilingualism, French-English, both orally and in writing;
  • Professional experience with an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP);
  • Excellent knowledge of the MS Office suite;
  • Geographic proficiency and experience in travel organization, an asset.

Project Manager

The Project Manager will report directly to the Executive VP, General Manager of the company.

The selected person will have to fulfill the following functions:

  • Actively participate in the project estimation process (engineering hours, production and installation costs) in collaboration with the estimation and sales team;
  • Act as a point of contact with the client and its partners (architects, consultants and engineers);
  • Good understanding of the technical parameters (from customers and their partners), of our equipment as well as the requirements to ensure their integration into their buildings (mechanical, civil and electrical);
  • Review contracts and technical specifications to ensure compliance of our equipment with project requirements;
  • Ensure an adequate level of exchange between the various stakeholders involved and the proper communication of project-related aspects (draft correspondence and manage communication between Gala, customers, subcontractors on site, etc.);
  • Prepare timetables, budgets and cash flows for the current projects;
  • Communicate objectives to internal collaborators in relation to required equipment performance, budgets, timelines or any other project-specific requirements;
  • Manage the administrative aspects of projects and ensure their inclusion in contracts (including payment agreements – invoicing, work permits, taxes, insurance, legal aspects, claims, etc.);
  • Ensure the application of contractual clauses and coordinate their impacts and their integration in the realization of projects;
  • Negotiate and manage changes to contracts or scope of mandates with the client and/or our subcontractors;
  • Document the progress of the projects and amend any changes or additions that may occur during the course of the contract;
  • Control compliance with deadlines and project costs;
  • Resolution of problem-solving that may arise during design, supply, production or installation on site and compliance with all local standards, including those relating to health and safety;
  • Hire subcontractors and organize the rental of equipment (specialized or not), including the required insurance;
  • Prepare the post-mortem of projects and participate in the continuous improvement process.

Qualifications and skills required:

  • BAC in mechanical or civil engineering or relevant experience in one of these fields;
  • Between 3 to 5 years of relevant experience in technical project management;
  • Bilingual a must. English and French both orally and written;
  • Knowledge of the MS Office suite (Excel, Word, MS Project);
  • Ability to multitask and work under pressure;
  • Demonstrate interpersonal skills in relation to internal and external stakeholders;
